Taconic Food Belts

Taconic International selects VICOTE® Coating For Demanding Food Cooking and Processing Belt Application

Taconic Internaional was looking for a solution to increase conveyer belt life, reduce both downtime and maintenance costs for their customers.

Taconic International, a specialist in engineered products for the food, aerospace, automotive, chemical, medical, packaging, textile, and wireless communication industries, has selected VICOTE Coating as a key element in its new Tacmaster product range for food processing conveyor belts.

This is exemplified by their flagship product Tacmaster 10 Blue. The Tacmaster product range is also available in black and brown and other colours upon request. Taconic pioneered the manufacture of PTFE coated fabrics and other high-temperature/non-stick materials, and is today a leading supplier to the food processing industry. The company also supplies a wide range of coated materials, including tapes, fabrics and belts for a wide variety of industrial applications

Taconic uses VICOTE Coating from Victrex, in its new Tacmaster range of food processing belts that are produced in master rolls and converted to required conveyor belt dimensions. These specially coated conveyor belts are used in aggressive food cooking environments where excellent wear, release and mechanical properties, and excellent temperature performance are required, such as in the pre-cooking of bacon, chicken, burgers, tortilla, pizza crusts and eggs.

Building upon its existing expertise in the area of fluoropolymer coating formulations to meet these demanding requirements, Taconic is now incorporating VICOTE Coating to produce a new innovative coating system for their Tacmaster belts. “By incorporating VICOTE Coating in our new food conveyor belts, we are able to provide our customers around the world, with increased wear and abrasion resistance, improved cut-through resistance, increased puncture and impact resistance as well as non-stick properties,” said Ian Molyneux, General Manager, IPD Europe, Taconic Industrial Products Division.

“When you combine these properties with improved dimensional stability, resistance to oils and grease, and continuous temperature resistance up to 260°C (500°F), we are able to increase the belt’s life by up to 40%, reducing both downtime and maintenance costs for our customers. Ian Molyneux continued, “Our Tacmaster products are manufactured with our specially formulated PTFE coatings incorporating the VICOTE product. They are shipped to our customers as master log rolls in various widths, as cut pieces, or as finished conveyor belts. Our cooperation with Victrex has not only enabled us to rapidly expand our product line, but will also potentially improve and enhance our existing product lines to better meet the exacting requirements of our food processing industry customers.”

“Working together with Taconic on such an exciting project is very rewarding. They have basically innovated the way food belts are manufactured with the use of VICOTE Coatings. The Victrex team supported them with processing and test data, and the necessary product requirements to meet their market and manufacturing needs. Taconic then was able to create a new customized coating system. The whole process from initial discussion through product development and successful commercialization was completed in less than 12 months – that’s fast!” says Andrew Storm, Leader of Victrex’s Global Venture Group.

Benefits of VICOTE Coatings for Food & Beverage Processing

High Temperature performance

Has a melt temperature of 343ºC and a continuous use temperature of 260°C (500°F). Tests show no loss of tensile strength after aging at 200ºC (392°F)for one year. Maintains performance at temperatures as low as -50ºC (-58°F)

Excellent Mechanical Properties
Exceeds that of all fluoropolymers. Ability to be used in extreme environments while maintaining key performance characteristics, including wear, creep and CUT through resistance, extremely durable.

Excellent Wear Surface

Longer component life in comparison to competitive materials. Enables less frequent parts replacement and higher operating efficiencies

Very Good Chemical and Steam Resistance

Longer component life in comparison to competitive materials in aggressive food processing environments. Ability to withstand repeated steam and/or chemical sterilization cycles while maintaining key performance characteristics

Purity

FDA compliant, meets food contact regulatory requirements. Not harmful if accidentally ingested

Injection moldability

Increased design flexibility, potential for cost savings over machined parts

VICOTE Coatings provide excellent wear resistance and durability for demanding applications that require exposure to extreme conditions such as high temperature, chemical and abrasion. By using VICOTE Coating in the coated part of their applications OEMs and coaters can extend application life, improve product performance and functionality, reduce overall systems cost and facilitate design freedoms to achieve product differentiation.

VICOTE Coatings are available in aqueous based liquid dispersions and powder form and exhibit the inherent performance characteristics of VICTREX PEEK polymer, including, exceptional wear, scratch and abrasion resistance, high temperature performance, ease of processing, very good barrier properties and very good chemical resistance.
