IKA® -WERKE GmbH & Co.KG developed disposable dispersing rotors made from VICTREX® PEEK Polymer. These rotors are used for crushing tissue or other soft organic materials particularly for PCR analysis. When actuated the dispersers run with up to 24,000 rpm. Commonly the rotors are manufactured from steel which have to been cleaned and sterilised in a time consuming process.
The polymer dispersing instruments can be manufactured economically by injection moulding and offer the user an easy handling instrument which can be disposed after operation. However, the bearing shells and rotors made from VICTREX PEEK have outstanding hydrolysis and chemical resistance. Therefore the option is given sterilising the polymer instrument and reusing it several times. For this reason VICTREX PEEK is used for many other medical applications where it can withstand thousands of sterilisation cycles.
